Question

Which city has the highest proportion of people who can speak both of Canada’s official languages?

Answer

Your chances of coming across a bilingual person are highest if you are strolling through the streets of Montréal. According to the 2006 census, 52% of Montrealers can speak both English and French. Moncton comes in second with 46.9%, followed by Ottawa–Gatineau with 44.4%.

In addition to being the city with the highest number of bilingual people in Canada, Montréal has more trilingual people than any other city in North America.
